Lily's crib at the hotel is ready for her

Today was a “down day” for us here in Nanjing. We relaxed (or at least John did—Pamela was bouncing off the walls).

The other six families were to arrive at 9:00 this morning, but their flight was cancelled and they didn’t arrive until 3:30.

We took a walk to check out our surroundings. Nanjing is like a small town after Shanghai. Only 6 million people compared to 17 million! (For comparison, New York City has 8.2 million people. ) Fortunately there are parks and winding walkways near the hotel and so we will be able to get out for walks with Lily over the next few days.

The weather is sticky, but there’s generally a breeze. The hotel has a large pool, and so we will be able to cool off. We’re not sure how Lily will react to a pool, as we’re not sure she’s even been in a tub.

It will be a week of testing things out and baby steps, and trying not to overwhelm her.
We cannot do much planning ahead, since we know nothing of how she will handle the transition. It will be one moment at a time. We can’t wait to start those moments.

Our excitement will have to wait a bit longer we have learned. The time for our scheduled pick up of Lily was moved from 10:00 to 2:00 tomorrow.

22 hours to Lily.

Thanks for checking in.

Glad your transfer to Nanjing went smoothly. I'm busy today cleaning for our home visit later this week but will certainly stay up until 2AM our time to think of you both with precious Lily. Hope you are able to get a little sleep now. Sweetest Dreams!
