Ninja Lily Gives Us a Scare

Today was our travel day from Nanjing to Guangzhou where we spend the next 7 days. The primary purpose is to get Lily's visa to travel to America. Why it takes 7 days is a mystery only the American government can answer.

The day started at 5:30 with Lily obviously not feeling well. Things went from bad to worse when, by the time we boarded the plane, a fever had left her lethargic, very fussy, and not willing to eat or drink. By the time we got to the White Swan Hotel, Pamela was in a panic mode. Children with Lily's heart problems are very susceptible to becoming ill quickly and to getting into life-threatening situations.

A visit to the White Swan Clinic was disconcerting as we don't understand Chinese medical techniques. But the doctor was able to bring her fever down and , after waking up our pediatrician at 2:30 AM Seattle time, we decided an emergency room visit was not necessary. We will be battling to keep her fever down tonight and tomorrow, and, at the pediatrician's advice, we will visit a clinic on Monday to have Lily's heart evaluated. We need to know if she will be okay to travel next weekend.

Hopefully tomorrow will find Lily doing better. Please send your thoughts and prayers our way.

The picture below shows "Ninja" Lily. The head band is holding a Chinese eucalyptus patch on her forehead to help bring down the fever.
Thanks for checking in.

Dear John and Pamela:
My name is Tima and I work at the Anticoagulation Clinic at Evergreen where John has his protime done. I spoke to Pamela on the phone briefly the day before you left. I too have a little girl born in my heart. She is five years old now and what a rollercoaster ride it was getting her. All I can say is hang in there and you will be home with your beautiful daughter before you know it. Lilly Mei is so beautiful and she will grow to love you both so much just wait and see. Good Luck and love the pics and info. Feels like you are there. Thanks for sharing your joy.

John and Pamela, there is a Western doctor at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou... you could ask your guide if you could take Lily there, it's just over the bridge in the city. I believe the doctor is from Australia. I understand feeling nervous, I too had to take Olivia to the White Swan clinic and didn't feel very secure about the treatments. At least this might make you feel you can understand better what is going on. I am praying for Lily Mei.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It has been amazing and for the first time I am reading a blog that gives me goosebumps and happy tears. Thank you also for the peeks into the Xuzhou SWI, all very helpful for us.
Have a safe and peaceful rest of your time in China and trip home. There are many prayers being sent your way. Sarah ( Elinor Xu YaTing's mom.)
